MY STORY

On January 1, 2017 - New Years Day - my life was turned upside down. My best friend and husband of nine years passed away unexpectedly. I was 34 years old and my son was about to turn three. Our lives were never going to be the same. My son was never going to grow his bond with his father, or know him first-hand. I wouldn't be able to grow old with my best friend, and we wouldn't be able to raise a family together. Three months later, my Dad passed away from stage 4 esophageal cancer. I was completely and utterly broken, and had to idea how to put the pieces back together.

Fast forward to present day. I am not the person I was prior to January 1, 2017, and I continue to change and grow as each day passes. While I couldn't put the previously existing pieces of myself back together, I realized that I could form new pieces and assemble those. I learned that I was stronger than my pain and grief, and that I could and would carry on if I worked at it. I learned that it's OK to have bad days, and on those days, to be kind to myself and practice self-care.

As I continue on my journey of grief and self-rediscovery, I hope that my story and experiences can offer comfort and hope to anyone who has experienced loss or trauma, and be a reminder that you are not alone. <3
